Sri Lanka completed a 209-run victory over Pakistan in the opening Test at Galle after claiming the extra half hour. This victory for the Sri Lankans is the biggest against Pakistan in Test history. It came after some real hard work on the fourth day as the Pakistani middle order provided stiff resistance.

But for excessive rain washing out a major portion of the last two days of the Galle Test, Sri Lanka should coast home to victory. Pakistan’s batting in the Test has been atrocious to say the least.

During the second day of the Galle Test against Pakistan, Kumar Sangakkara remained unbeaten on 199 as Sri Lanka were bowled out. Sangakkara played an awesome knock, which took Lanka to 472 and put them in command in the Test.

Pakistan disappointed big time in the one-day series against Sri Lanka. And one of the reasons for their failure was the inability of their seniormost batsman Younis Khan to score runs. Of course Shahid Afridi has been part of the Pakistan squad for longer, but he is not rated as a pure batsman.

Pakistan batting’s mainstay Younus Khan has charged up the ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen after his double-century set-up an innings and 184-run victory for Pakistan in the first Test against Bangladesh.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had approached Younus Khan to captain Pakistan in limited-overs in order to reduce the workload on Misbahul Haq but the former captain declined the request, insisting on need to concentrate on his batting and his desire to stay away from controversies.
